Au pair programme in Ireland
General requirements:
Age: 18 to 27 Administrative procedure:
For Au Pairs from the EU-member states:
Families living in the Republic of Ireland can only welcome au pairs from the EU or from Iceland, Norway, Switzerland and Liechtenstein. Au pairs from these countries have to register only with the Irish police when they arrive, but do not need a work permit.
For citizens of Argentina, Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Japan, New Zealand and the Republic of Korea, it is also possible to apply for a Working Holiday visa. The number of visas is limited and there are certain application periods in which the visa can be applied for.
US citizens can go to Ireland by obtaining a Work & Travel visa. Please click here to find detailed information.
For Au Pairs from all other countries:
For au pairs coming from other countries, it is possible to obtain a student visa if the prospective applicant is registered to study English at an approved language school. A student may hold down a part-time job to support themselves whilst studying. Part-time cannot be more than 25 hours per week. However, the immigration officials at the entry point will always have the right to refuse entry should they believe the student is actually intending to work full-time.
